Why We Shouldn’t Wait To Give Ourselves Permission To Be Powerful

Personal Power as a Woman confidence

Out of all the things to talk about in the world of women empowerment, why this?

Because the world has gotten it wrong on what it means to give zero effs.

At face value, people take it as someone not caring, being crass, inconsiderate, rude, or even selfish. It’s not a popular term among many people because to these people it insinuates callous individualism above all else, to the detriment of society.

But if you take a moment to look closer at what giving zero f actually means, it’s something much deeper.

It’s something rooted in responsibility, care, kindness, self-honoring, and love.

– It’s a precursor to manifesting an authentic and value-aligned life.
– It’s a phrase that allows many women to just…be.

Be themselves. Be innovative. A leader. Happy. Fulfilled. Purposeful.

Giving zero f is about considering what an individual’s desires are first without needing consent, approval, or agreement to have them.

It’s a one-liner that represents sovereignty.

Because when you start living life under the umbrella of “you should be this”, “you can’t do that” or some other limiting choice of words, you lose yourself in the process of trying to be compliant.

Compliancy has meant safety for so many women that not being agreeable, selfless, and a “good girl” can risk her lifestyle, well-being, status, relationships, and sense of self.

If a woman feels like these things are constantly on the line, can you blame her for wanting to be compliant?

No, because we as women have all been there.

– We know what it’s like to give up what we want for someone else to succeed.
– We know what it feels like to do something for ourselves, only to have someone else throw it in our face.

We get what it means to just be easy-going so your workplace and home feel safe enough to return to.

Thankfully, we are in a place and time where technology and courageous women collide.

More and more of us are unwilling to put ourselves on the backburner anymore.

– There are increasing numbers of women who are willing to fight for their dreams and deepest desires.
– And we have the internet to thank for spreading this message of “yes, we can” faster.

So today, as we live in this modern world, the generations who have been lucky enough to live into their 50s, 60s, 70s, and above have been generously sharing with younger generations their experiences, attitudes, and biggest takeaways from life.

And one common thread that we see and hear is “I’m too old to give a sh.”

Because those beautiful women reflect back on their life, they see all the patterns of compliancy, invisibility, unworthiness, and the joy and fulfillment it cost them.

They know very well the consequences of suppressing themselves for the comfort of others and so they could be deemed “tolerable”. They know the hit their self-esteem takes. They viscerally feel the pain of self-sacrificing as they gave up dreams, time, energy, and hope.

And now, they are sharing their wisdom with the younger women so we don’t perpetuate the cycle of self-abandonment anymore.

“Stop worrying about what others think. Be clear on how you want to think of yourself.”
“Do what you want. We only have one life.”
“You are stronger than you think. Go for it.”

These women are fighters, resilient, and courageous.

– They defend themselves when someone speaks disrespectfully to them.
– They speak up for others who can’t defend themselves.
– They don’t spend time doing things that they don’t absolutely love.
– They celebrate moments of their life with the people they love.
– They feel guiltless when they take care of themselves.
– They don’t apologize for the way they dress or what they do with their time.
– They don’t owe anyone an explanation.

I think it behoves us to listen to them.

As we enter into the second half of our lives, wouldn’t it be nice to be able to do all those things now instead of feeling like we only deserve them later?

So here’s what I want to ask you, wonderful reader.

1. Can you give zero effs now without feeling like you have to earn it so that you can pursue the “hell yesses” in your life?

2. Can you choose without someone else’s stamp of approval and be the strong decision maker in your life?

I want to invite you to choose something today.

– Something fierce, something bold with a level of audaciousness you might have never experienced or felt before.

Give zero F like your 80 years old…now.

You are not guaranteed “later” in life. No one out there actually gives you the authority to decide in your life. Only you do.

Starting today, give zero F so that you can live your life in a way that is courageous, deeply satisfying and meaningful to you.

– Allow yourself the utmost consideration when you make choices.
– Be responsible for your life in a way that you no longer hand over your power to other people.
– Care about yourself so intentionally that you no longer downplay, diminish, or mute what you want in your life.
– Live a life full of conviction that you are worth being seen, heard, and loved.
– Connect with a community of women who are on the same path.
– And start making different choices that give you back your power.

Take your life back now.
