Why Feeling Like A Misfit Is Your Business Superpower

Why Feeling Like A Misfit Is Your Business Superpower

Have you ever felt like an outsider peering in and truly not belonging? Have you tried to assimilate yourself into a social group only to find that your efforts were futile?

What if you were never meant to fit in? What if your ability to talk to individuals on a one-on-one level from various walks of life, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds was really your superpower?

I found myself in your shoes back when I was in elementary school. I was watching Disney Channel and wondered why I don’t have any of those cliques you see in pop culture. Heck, I’m  in my late 20’s now and I still don’t have a particular social circle.

The only difference is now I know the reason why.

You see people like you and me weren’t meant to fit in because we hold a rare lens to life. We’re meant to step into the roles of the coaches, healers and guides to show others their hidden power.

It’s due to this ability of not fitting in that we can now see people through an unbiased lens and connect the dots in other people’s life experiences. Our intuition and ability to see the gifts in others isn’t swayed by any outside influence. We see people from a bird’s eye perspective and show them the positive attributes they overlook about themselves.

Six years ago, I remember struggling with these feelings. After securing a dual degree in Finance and Supply Chain Management I found myself in a weird predicament feeling out of place in my 9 to 5 job. I knew I wanted to connect with people on a deeper, non-superficial level.

Eventually after a year of commuting 1000 hours total on a train, I took a huge intuitive risk started a new path towards the field of journalism.  I still didn’t have a clique but I started to sense my calling.

The more I interviewed people, the more I realized I could use my innate storytelling skills and empathy to help others unpack the value in their existing life experiences. I almost felt like a detective and something inside of me pushed me to explore how my gifts could reach even a larger audience. I truly started owning the power of one-on-one connections.

In August 2021, I became a full-time business owner at Storybydhara.com and have since then have helped over 80 entrepreneurs discover the unique power in their story. By creating intensives, private coaching, and courses, I’m working as part of a larger mission to help people feel seen. This is why I’m proud to be speaking at the Women In Business’s 2022 Women Thrive Summit and empowering others to share their story.

Through coaching events such as the Women Thrive Summit among other online outlets I’ve also run into many online connections as well who I feel connected too on a soul level.

In short, even though I never found my “clique” I found my deeper purpose and deeper connections.

I hope you do too.

The question of diversity and embracing our unique selves often comes to my mind – so I sat down with a Story Telling and Niche Expert Dhara Singh to hear more about her story of being a misfit and how that become her superpower.

Here is what Dhara Singh had to share with me:

“I found myself in your shoes back when I was in elementary school. I was watching Disney Channel and wondered why I don’t have any of those cliques you see in pop culture. Heck, I’m in my late 20’s now and I still don’t have a particular social circle.

This year I am proud to be sharing my story and my voice at the Women In Business’s 2022 Women Thrive Summit that champions the voices of women from all walks of life. I am excited to see such diversity of women, of different backgrounds, ages and life experiences all come together to make an impact.

In short, even though I never found my “clique” I found my deeper purpose and a deeper connection to myself and my true purpose and now I don’t feel like I need to fit in, I can stand out and embrace who I am in any environment.
