The Power Of Thought
In today’s fast-paced world, wellness often gets reduced to diet and exercise. But true well-being begins in the mind. I attended a wonderful seminar by mindset coach Robin Banks a few years ago and he said, “It starts with a thought.” That simple idea was the nugget and take-away I took from that seminar. It holds immense power—because every action, word, and decision begin in the mind.
I realised this when I actively decided to consider what I was thinking…especially at the start of the day. “This is going to be a busy day,” and it was. This client is going to have so many issues,” and they did. Incredible how true it is…what you say, negative or positive, is true.
Mental wellness is about being intentional. Each day, we can shape our reality by choosing our thoughts. Planning your day with purpose, aligning your affirmations with your goals and values and visualizing success are not just motivational tools—they are mental fitness exercises. We cannot control the future, but we can control how we think about it. And in that lies our greatest strength.
Three Tips to Strengthen Mindpower:
1. Start with mindfulness: Before you get up, just lie there and be grateful for three things. I am for my family, my eyes, and my warm bed. Be still. This sets a calm tone for the day. The benefits of mindfulness can be observed in various aspects of our lives.
“Mindfulness is more likely to positively affect our mental and physical health and improve people’s efficiency in student life and work.” Read more here [Mindfulness Benefits](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5103185/).
2. Flip the Script: When a negative thought arises, consciously replace it with a positive one. Action Step: Be intentional about this. Do not allow your negative thoughts to ruin your day.
3. Goal set daily: Write down one goal and one action step each morning. Action Step: This keeps your mind focused and proactive. Planning and preparing is the only way to keep your commitments on track and you feeling good about it.
As psychologist Dr. Caroline Leaf says, “You are not a victim of your biology. You are a victor over your mind.”
This August, let your thoughts be your greatest wellness tool.
