Retiring the Superwoman: A Quiet Rebellion That’s Redefining Feminine Leadership

The new CEO mindset is no longer about doing it all – we are embracing a softer power, letting go of perfection, and aligning more with our natural flow

The High Cost of Holding It All

She was highly efficient. She was accomplished. She looked the part. She was exhausted.

Not that long ago, this was me, fully immersed in a six-figure role with all the perks.

Somewhere along the way, I started to embody the Superwoman myth, and I made it my identity. Hustle harder, push through, take the long hours — all with a smile, of course, and keeping up appearances at all costs.

I found out the hard way that I couldn’t have my cake and eat it, too. My career and my life were slowly burning me out. After years of constant stress I had anxiety, depression, and a complete breakdown. I also had unresolved grief of losing five pregnancies while trying to manage a publishing company, and I had to make some radical changes.

I had to learn to retire my Superwoman. Not because she wasn’t strong, but because she was unsustainably wearing too many capes and she was alone in her strength. Because that unattainable shiny model was handed to her not by choice, but by conditioning and it came at too high a cost for me.

I turned my back on the corporate world and vowed never to return. I did run my own bespoke cake boutique for a few years following my exit from the publishing industry. It was creative, it gave me freedom to work from home and be flexible when my son was young.

Despite the heartbreak of miscarrying many times, I did give birth to a healthy son, which I didn’t know would be my miracle child. Modelling fondant figurines for children’s birthday cakes and crafting elaborate wedding cakes was my therapy, my happy place at that time.

The Myth is Cracking

But quietly, subtly, something began to shift in me. I had surrendered to a different pace and by being more still and immersed in creative and artistic work I found myself wanting to create something different again. I did a lot of healing work — facing my shadows, somatic practices and working through the trauma and grief of losing multiple pregnancies, which led me onto my path of embodiment coaching. The more I shared my story, the more women would resonate and after launching my book Corporate Rewilding, my path took a whole new turn.

Corporate called me, but now in a different form. I felt more like a ninja behind enemy lines. I saw women, just like me, who were living into the same Superwoman myth with an all-too-familiar ‘I’m just fine’ smile, dancing with burnout in disguise. That woman in the power suit in the corner office… I knew what she was feeling, I knew the stories she’d tell herself to keep going. I saw her empty shell. I used to be one of them.

And the way I started to show up, the audacious outspoken parts of my journey I shared, the woman I now embody was deeply triggering for some of those women. I knew then that I wanted to show them that they can live and work differently. That it is not too late and that embracing their softer, feminine side was not a sign of weakness, but of innate power.

I wanted to lead women to become the CEO of their own life and evolve into a new way of ‘doing business’.

Here is what I learned when I replaced the old model:

Old CEO Mindset:

  • Work till you drop.
  • Be one of the boys.
  • Smile through the stress.
  • Say yes to prove you’re worth it.
  • Brag about how “busy” you are.

New CEO Mindset:

  • Lead from purpose, not pressure.
  • Make softness a strength.
  • Protect your peace like it’s gold.
  • Say no like you mean it.
  • Rest before you crash.

Burnout is real — and it’s a women’s quiet crisis.

The research backs us up: McKinsey’s 2024 Women in the Workplace report shows burnout is rising faster for women in leadership than ever before. We’re overrepresented in unpaid labour, underrepresented in leadership, and still expected to smile through the stress.

It’s not just a you thing. It’s a system thing.

The old model of leadership — rooted in endless output and emotional suppression — isn’t just unsustainable, it’s outdated. The Superwoman myth taught us to hustle for worthiness, lead like men, and silence the very traits that make us powerful.

But now, women don’t just desire to have less stress and walk away from burnout — they desire to rewrite the entire playbook.

And the ones that dare? They’re building businesses, careers, and lives that no longer cost us everything else. A rebellion is rising — with a gentle clarity. We are starting to realise that doing more doesn’t equal being more.

We are retiring Superwoman.

What’s Replacing the Superwoman Archetype?

We are redefining leadership from the inside out with a new CEO mindset that begins with reclaiming ourselves — realigning with our purpose and leading with compassion, our way.

The feminine CEO — she’s waking up.

We are entering a new paradigm of leadership rooted in emotional intelligence, embodied presence, collaboration, and conscious boundaries. Our inner game is changing by leaning back into our truth. Soft and sovereign.

As an embodiment coach and feminine business mentor, I’ve worked with women who reached the peak of success and still felt hollow. Many were high-achieving professionals, managing teams or running companies. And yet, they were quietly unravelling behind the scenes, much like I did not that long ago.

Female CEOs list a strong sense of personal and organisational purpose as the main driver of their boldness and why they want the role. They value presence over performance.

Feminine leadership is less about performing and how you look leading — and more about how it feels to follow your own internal compass. It’s deeply felt.
And that changes everything.

It means consciously unlearning the old paradigms that kept you hustling for worth — and stepping into a new, more embodied way of leading and self-trust.

Here Are Six Ways to Retire Your Superwoman and Start Shifting into Your Feminine CEO Mindset:

  1. Intuition Over Impulse
The feminine CEO trusts her gut. She doesn’t rush decisions. She listens, feels, and acts with clarity — not fear.
Reframe: Fast isn’t always smart. Aligned is better than urgent.
  2. Magnetism Over Force
Instead of pushing, chasing, or over-proving, she attracts the right opportunities by being rooted in her worth and values.
Reframe: She doesn’t hustle for her seat at the table — she builds a table that aligns with her vision.
  3. Reconcile Polarities
Accept that strength and softness coexist. Be bold and kind. Be focused and mellow. Lead with authenticity and embodiment — not masks or personas.
Reframe: The most powerful thing you can be in a meeting or boardroom? Fully yourself.
  4. Cycles Over Grind
She honours her energy, creative seasons, and personal needs. She leads in alignment with her body — not in rebellion against it.
Reframe: Burnout isn’t a badge of honour. Rest is a strategy.
  5. Collaboration Over Competition
The feminine CEO builds networks and rises with others. She dissolves comparison and creates ecosystems of mutual empowerment.
    Reframe: Leadership isn’t a hierarchy. It’s a ripple effect.
  6. Embodiment Over Ego
Her power doesn’t come from titles, applause, or performance — it comes from within. She embodies her message and her mission.
Reframe: The feminine CEO doesn’t stand on a pedestal. She anchors.

This is how your shift starts — not in giant life changes, but in bold little rebellious steps that say: “I matter. My energy matters. My joy matters.”
I dare you to try it.

We’re not leading like men anymore. We’re leading like a whole woman.
You don’t need to become the new CEO.
You already are — no superhero cape needed.
You just need to remember your truth.

This is your invitation to lead as you — fully expressed, fully aligned, wild, and enough.
