Subheading:
Angelina has walked paths that most of us wouldn’t dare. She has gone from oil rigs to corporate boardrooms and onto global stages, but what makes her story so powerful and unforgettable isn’t just how she pivoted, it’s the power and purpose behind every choice. She is a true disruptor and leadership alchemist, with heart, with humanity and with a deep commitment to showing up as her full self.
She does not lead to impress; she leads to make an impact, putting people first. Quietly yet boldly, she’s challenging everything we have been taught about success. She’s rewriting the rules of leadership and reminding us all that the most powerful thing we can do is lead from within.
Lead-in Quote:
“You deserve a workplace and a life that values your full humanity.” – Angelina Badri
INTRO:
What does it truly mean to lead differently?
When Angelina Badri walked away from a corporate leadership role in the oil and gas industry to build her global consultancy, many asked, “Why would you leave something so secure?” Her answer: “Because I knew I was built for more.”
She went on to rewrite the playbook entirely. After 15+ years of navigating high-risk industries, climbing the corporate ladder, and walking away from titles, Angelina has discovered a deeper truth: you don’t change the system by surviving in it, you disrupt it by becoming more of yourself.
In this powerful interview, Angelina opens up about how she has reinvented herself and her leadership journey multiple times. Moving across continents and industries. From mine sites in Papua New Guinea to boardrooms in Australia, she has helped leaders evolve from performance-at-all-costs to human-first cultures and she has built a powerful movement along the way.
Her story is one of resilience, deep self-inquiry, and unapologetic reinvention. It’s a masterclass in what it looks like to lead from within and create ripple effects of change that start at the human level and spread globally.
INTERVIEW FEATURE
This month’s theme is all about fearless pivots and I asked her what that means to her personally.
She says: “For me, pivoting is about radical self-honesty. I’ve had to reinvent myself multiple times across different career paths, roles, and even within my own identity. Whether I was working on drill rigs or advising C-suite leaders, every turning point demanded that I recalibrate who I was and how I wanted to show up in the world.
It was never just about switching jobs or titles. It was about choosing to think, feel, and act differently™, to evolve from within myself so my external world reflected the leader I truly am.
You spent over 15 years in high-risk industries. When did you realise you needed to pivot?
“There were a few moments, but the biggest one was when I hit what I call an internal ceiling. I was working in a senior role at a petroleum company, I was respected, “successful” by most definitions, but inside, I felt stuck.
I had this deep knowing that I was called to do more. To lead differently. To impact on a bigger, more human scale. And that meant leaving that comfort behind to start my own company. It was terrifying, but also one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”
Where did your passion for transforming workplace culture begin?
“It started with my father. He worked in the same industry and, one day, I went with him to visit a colleague in hospital who had suffered a workplace life-changing injury. That moment changed everything for me.
I remember thinking: Work should never cost someone their life, their dignity, their health, or their identity. That experience lit a fire in me and that’s why I’ve spent my entire career helping organisations build safer, more human workplaces where people can thrive, not just survive”
What does it really mean to “lead differently”?
“It means refusing to shrink to fit into systems that were never designed with you in mind. It means honouring your full humanity, your intuition, empathy, voice and leading from a place of self-worth and alignment, not just performance metrics.
I tell women all the time: Burn the old leadership playbook. You don’t need to become more like a man to be respected. You just need to fully own who you are and then lead from that place.”
What role does identity play in successful pivots?
“It means everything. If you don’t know your worth, you’ll always let someone else define it for you, whether that’s a boss, a job title, or a broken system.
When I coach women in toxic work environments, we always come back to identity first. I’ve had women with physical symptoms, including rashes and panic attacks, thinking they were the problem. But once they shifted their inner narrative and reclaimed their power, the external reality changed too. That’s not just mindset, it’s embodiment.”
What would you say to women who are afraid to pivot, especially those burnt out from corporate life?
“I’d say: I get it. Pivoting is scary. But your comfort zone can also be your breaking point. Burnout isn’t a badge of honour. It’s your body asking you to choose differently.
You don’t have to leap overnight. Start planning your exit. Get clear on your why. And remember, you don’t need permission to rewrite your story. Pivoting might feel like a risk, but regret is far riskier.
You have to rewire the narrative. You are not the labels you’ve been given. You are who you choose to become.”
WTM: What was the most powerful moment after making your pivot into entrepreneurship?
“When I resigned from my senior role, I thought I’d be met with resistance. But the company said ‘We knew this was coming. We support you. Can we be your first client?’ That moment affirmed everything for me. When you’re in alignment, doors open. Support finds you. You magnetise what’s meant for you.”
What’s your message to women in leadership who feel called to evolve?
“You are valuable. Not because of your title. Not because of how hard you work. But because you exist. Stop playing small. Stop waiting for systems to change. Be the disruption. Whether you’re in the boardroom, on the frontline, or building your own table. You deserve to lead in a way that feels deeply authentic and unapologetic.”
Leading Differently: The Human-First Way
Angelina’s work and leadership philosophy is grounded in humanity. She coaches executives, professionals, and frontline teams to lead with care, compassion, and connection, without compromising performance.
She believes leadership is less about authority and more about alignment.
“The best leaders know who they are. They lead from the inside out. That’s where empowered cultures are born.”
Angelina’s built Universal Safety Wellness ® to embody this philosophy by blending behavioural science, operational execution, and soulful self-leadership. From oil and gas, mining, health, and beyond. Her clients span industries but the mission remains the same:
“We need to burn the old playbook and write a new one where purpose meets process, and humanity is non-negotiable.”
Closing Quote:
“We are not here to fit in. We are here to lead differently and fearlessly become who we were always meant to be.”
