From Overthinking To Inner Freedom: Finding Calm In A World That Tells You To Hustle
So many women today are driven, capable, and creative. But beneath that strength, there’s often a struggle – a mind constantly racing and a deep undercurrent of self-doubt. Outwardly, everything looks polished and in control. But internally, it can feel like being a duck on water: serene above the surface yet paddling crazily underneath.
Success isn’t just about what we achieve on the outside, it’s about how we feel on the inside while we are busy achieving. Many high-achieving women find themselves lying awake at night, caught in loops of overthinking, questioning their decisions, and feeling emotionally overwhelmed.
I know this intimately. I was the classic “do-it-all” woman – calm and collected on the outside, yet carrying anger and frustration beneath the surface. And always asking the question “why?” Through my own journey and the techniques I’ve learned, I now support women to shift from overdoing to deep connection and self-trust.
Here are three mindset shifts that can help you move from overthinking to inner freedom:
1. From Control to Curiosity
Overthinking often stems from the desire to control outcomes. When we try to force, fix, or predict everything, life becomes a struggle. But what if we approached life with curiosity instead?
– What else could this mean?
– What else is possible?
– How might this moment be here for me?
Rather than dissecting every thought or trying to solve every problem, we can learn to witness our thoughts with kindness. Healing comes through compassion, not criticism. When you notice yourself spiraling in thought, pause. Breathe. Get curious about what you’re feeling. Then gently return to your body and feel it all. This practice invites presence, softness, and grace.
2. From Hustle to Embodied Presence
Hustling often keeps us in a constant state of nervous system activation – fight, flight, or freeze. It speeds us up, distances us from our intuition, and wears us down.
When we slow down and tune into our bodies, we begin to hear our inner voice. We stop reacting and start responding. We stop striving and begin aligning the outer with the inner. Embodiment lets us stay with what’s real, without needing to escape. And when we are honest with ourselves, we follow the energy of where we’re being called even if the spreadsheets don’t add up.
3. From Self-Sabotage to Self-Trust
Self-sabotage is often fear in disguise – fear that you’re not enough, that you’ll fail, or that you’re too much. It can look like procrastination, perfectionism, or staying busy to avoid feeling.
The first step is noticing these patterns with compassion. These parts of you don’t need to be shamed; they need to be seen, heard, and loved. From there, begin taking small, courageous steps to rebuild trust in yourself. Listen for the quiet voice inside, the one that whispers, “this way”, even when your logic says otherwise. Honour it. Follow it.
Real success isn’t about doing more. It’s about slowing down enough to hear your own wisdom and then having the courage to act on it. That’s where trust begins and freedom lives!
If you find yourself caught in the swirl of overthinking, I invite you to pause. Breathe. Come home to yourself. Freedom doesn’t lie in the busyness of life; it lies within.
